The Free University Amsterdam (Vrije Universiteit – VU) was founded in 1880 by orthodox protestants from the Anti-Revolutionary Party. It was the only university not set up by the state or the Catholic Church; instead it was linked to a network of Dutch reformed churches until the 1970s. The VU is the second university of Amsterdam, with around 20,000 students, and has its own campus right outside the city centre, near the financial district of Amsterdam. The VU has accepted the honour to host EUDC 2010, and is providing us with free tournament locations for the preliminary rounds, as well as sponsoring the tournament financially. VU
VU Connected is responsible for promoting debates, workshops and panel discussions at the Free University, as well as creating contacts with VU alumni throughout the country. They are eagerly anticipating EUDC 2010 and have already started their promotional activities for the tournament. Through them, we hope to reach a large student and alumni audience for the tournament. They will also provide us with logistical aid and provide us with the technology to deal with a registration that fills up in seconds rather than minutes. VU Connected

Amsterdam’s promise, diversity and wealth of opportunity make it an excellent choice for business, education, visiting and for living. Amsterdam’s rich heritage and culture, its spirit of commerce, its innovative infrastructure, its liveability and its creativity set it apart from other major European cities. Amsterdam’s creativity and innovation combine, of course, in its handling of water and existence below sea level. Every day is a powerful reminder of Amsterdam’s intelligent use of resources, engineering and technology to provide a beautiful and functional city surrounded by water. Very few cities in the world can mix such global, commercial competitiveness with a centre that is so livable, compact and accessible. Interested in studying in Amsterdam? Check out this website.
