Thank you, Koç Worlds!

The Amsterdam Euros 2010 OrgComm would like to thank everyone from Koç Worlds for organizing a great WUDC!

We congratulate our DCA Jonathan Leader Maynard for being part of the top team on tab and making it to the Grand Final. We would also like to congratulate our DCAs Doug Cochran and Ross Reid McGuire for judging that same final.

Welcome

Welcome to the website of Amsterdam Euros! We would like to invite all of you to the 2010 European Universities Debating Championships in our wonderful city. It will be the twelfth time that students from all over Europe gather to celebrate the power of intellectual debate and cultural exchanges. The championship has grown from humble beginnings in 1999 to become one of the largest international student events of Europe with 600 participants expected in Amsterdam from the 11th to the 17th of July.

Amsterdam has an international reputation for liberalism and tolerance that we are proud of. It is probably the most relaxed capital in Europe, possibly the world, with a culturally diverse population and restaurants, bars and clubs to show that diversity. Amsterdam's atmosphere of live and let live and its history as an international hub for capitalism and radical political and religious thought and tolerance for differences during the 16th and 17th century is the perfect backdrop for an event that focuses on an exchange of ideas in which no thought is unassailable unless it is proven. Still, debating could use a boost in the Netherlands. We hope to increase the popularity of debating in the Netherlands with Euros 2010, aiming to convince high school kids and politicians alike of the value of debating for their lives.

We will do our utmost best to make this tournament a wonderful experience for all of you. Our excellent CA team will ensure the quality of debating and judging. We have prepared a program that gives you a taste of Amsterdam’s unique atmosphere in our social program and our excursions. We will of course draw on the best traditions in Dutch debating to make everyone feel as much at home as we can. If you have any questions about Euros, please contact us, so that we can help you out: info@amsterdameudc.org.

We are grateful for the opportunity to host the European Universities Debating Championship this year. We invite all of you to come and make this event one of the best tournaments you have ever been to. We love Amsterdam, we love debating and we love the international debating community. Help us spread the love at Amsterdam Euros.
